Abstract

1276908 Free-flowing tetrafluoroethylene polymer powders LIQUID NITROGEN PROCESSING CORP 21 Oct 1969 [26 Dec 1968 20 June 1969] 51487/69 Heading C3P A free-flowing pulverulent polymer blend may be prepared by uniformly blending a mixture of 0À01 to 10 weight per cent of fluorinated ethylene/propylene copolymer having a particle size of ¢ to 10 microns (maximum dimension) and from 90 to 99À99 weight per cent of powdered tetrafluoroethylene polymer having a particle size of 10 to 100 microns (maximum dimension), with the aforesaid percentages being based on the total weight of the polymer and copolymer, wetting and agglomerating the mixture with from 10 to 40 weight per cent (based on the total wet mixture) of an organic liquid having a surface tension of less than 40 dynes per centimetre (measured at 20‹ C.), agitating the wet mixture, and drying the wet mixture to remove organic liquid so that the resultant product composition has a free liquid content of less than 0À03 weight per cent. In the examples blends are prepared containing polytetrafluoroethylene, fluorinated ethylene/propylene copolymer, milled fibre-glass, graphite, and bronze using ethanol as the organic liquid and drying while tumbling.
