Abstract
1276860 Coating ALLIED CHEMICAL CORP 31 July 1969 [1 Aug 1968] 38574/69 Heading B2E [Also in Divisions C2 and D1] Oil- and water-repellancy is imparted to substrates such as textiles, paper, wood, plastics, glass or metals, by treating with a solution or dispersion of a quarternary salt of general formula: wherein R f is a perfluoroalkyl group having 3 to 17 carbon atoms, or a group of general formula: wherein each of the groups R<SP>1</SP>, which may be the same or different, is a fluorine atom or a fluoroalkyl group having up to 9 carbon atoms, or two of the groups R<SP>1</SP> together form a fluoroalkylene group having up to 18 carbon atoms, at least one of the groups R<SP>1</SP> being a fluorine atom; each of u and v, which may be the same or different, is 0 or 1; each of m and n, which may be the same or different, is 0 or an integer of 1 to 20, m+n being 0 to 20, m being at least I when v is 0, and v being 0 when m+n+u is greater than 0; M is a hydrogen or fluorine atom, M being a hydrogen atom when n is greater than 0; x is an integer of 2 to 6; y is an integer of 1 to 4; Z is a hydrogen atom; an acyl group of formula -CO-R f wherein is as defined above; R f alkenylsulphonylalkyl group of formula: wherein p is 0 or 1, each of the groups R<SP>2</SP>, which may be the same or different, is a hydrogen atom or an alkyl or substituted or unsubstituted aryl group, and R<SP>3</SP> is an alkylene, arylene or aralkylene group; or a quaternary amine adduct group of formula: wherein R<SP>2</SP>, R<SP>3</SP> and p are as defined above, and B is a pyridinium, quinolinium or methylsubstituted pyridinium group; Z<SP>1</SP> is hydrogen atom, an acyl group of formula -CO-R, as defined above, a alkenylsulphonylalkyl group as defined above, a quarternary amine adduct group as defined above, or a group of formula -C x -H 2x -NH-Z wherein x and Z are as defined above, each of the groups Z<SP>1</SP>, when y is greater than 1, being the same or different; X is a negativley charged ion which is a halide, sulphate, acid sulphate, phosphate or acid phosphate ion; q is an integer of I to 4 equal to the number of quaternary amine adduct groups in the salt; and r is an integer of 1 to 3 equal to the valency of the negatively chargd ion; subject to the proviso that the salt contains at least two acyl group of formula -CO-R f and at least one quaternary amine adduct group. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 1124538.
