Abstract

127,675. British Thomson - Houston Co., (General Electric Co.). May 23, 1917. Aerials and like radiating and receiving conductors; wireless telegraphy and signalling.-A receiving-conductor for directive working consists of a coil 1 having a la.rge number of turns of insulated wire placed over a number of copper sheets or coils 2 having low impedance. The sheets 2 are placed at right-angles to the plane of the coil 1 and are mounted in a frame 3 adapted to be rotated by a handle 6. The terminals 7, 8 of the coil 1 are connected to the grid 9 and cathode of a device 11; and a telephone 12, shunted by a condenser 15, is connected in the plate circuit of the device 11. A tuning-condenser 16 is placed across the grid 9 and the cathode, and a condenser 17 is placed in the grid circuit. In operation, the coil 1 is rotated until its plane is in the direction of the received waves, when the maximum effect will be produced in the telephone 12. The received waves will produce no effect on the sheets 2; but signals or strays coming from other directions will produce current in the sheets 2, which will be dissipated in the sheets and will produce no appreciable effect upon the coil 1.
