Abstract

1276740 Production of secondary and tertiary amines BADISCHE ANILIN- & SODAFABRIK AG 8 Sept 1969 [9 Sept 1968] 44228/69 Heading C2C Secondary and tertiary amines are prepared by the reaction of primary or secondary amines with formaldehyde followed by hydrogenation of the resultant N-methylolamine in the presence of a hydrogenation catalyst containing cobalt and manganese and/or chromium at elevated temperature and superatmospheric pressure. The following compounds are prepared by this process: N-dimethylaminopropanol, N - methylbenzylamine, N - methylmorpholine, tetramethylethylenediamine, N- tetramethylpropylenediamine(1,3), N - methylbicyclohexylamine and N-methyl piperidine.
