Abstract
1276357 Abrading MICROMATIC HONE CORP 21 July 1969 [7 Oct 1968] 36484/69 Heading B3D A rotatable, reciprocable honing tool 10 comprises a body member 12 (shown engaging a workpiece WP) having radial slots 16, and radially adjustable honing abrasive members 42 within each slot 16, backed by a cone member 20 provided with camming slots 24 and cam surface portions 25. The cone 20 controls radial movement of the abrasive members 42 through a spool 30. Initially, the members 42 lie in the slots 24, and as honing proceeds, the cone 20 moves increasingly downwards to compensate for abrasive wear. At the lowest cone position, the cone 20 is raised, so that a ball 40 sliding in a guide channel 27 of the cone member 20 to prevent rotation relative to the body 12 enters a lower channel portion 26. The cone 20 may then be turned by means of a screw-driver slot 28, so that the ball 40 engages in a second slot 27, and the abrasive members 42 may then be further advanced radially by sliding on the cam surfaces 25.
