Abstract

1276192 Brake-lining wear detectors; spottype disc brakes SOC ANON FRANCAISE DU FERODO 14 Aug 1969 [19 Aug 1968] 40717/69 Heading F2E A stationary bearer, for example the fixed cylinder casing, of a spot-type disc brake is provided with a wear detector device having at least a portion in the path of movement of a braking pad so that the device is caused to operate on pre-determined wear of the pad. In Figs. 1 and 3 a varnished deformable metal strip 25 is secured at 27 to the fixed cylinder casing 16, and after a definite degree of wear of the friction linings 12A, 13A, the free end 29 is entrained by the plate 12B of pad 12 and the extremity 30 comes into contact with the moving disc 10. The varnish coating of the metal strip is thereupon worn away by the disc, so a circuit including disc 10 is closed to energize a warning device. In Figs. 5 to 7 (not shown), the free end 29, 30, of the strip is made narrow and accommodated in the upper end of a groove formed in the friction lining of one of the pads primarily for egress of dust and/or moisture. In Figs. 8 to 10 (not shown) the free end of the strip is laterally extended to encompass the full width of the braking pad, and has a downturned portion such as 29, 30 at each end of the lateral extension.
