Abstract

1275830 Dehydrogenating C 8 -C 18 n-paraffins LEUNA WERKE "WALTER ULBRICHT" VEB 1 Dec 1970 57117/70 Heading C5E Linear mono-olefins are produced by dehydrogenating C 8 -C 18 n-paraffins at above 380‹ C. in the presence of H 2 or a free H 2 -containing gas and a halogen-free catalyst containing 0À5- 5 wt. per cent Pt and 0À3-0À6 wt. per cent alkali metal in the form of oxide supported on a carrier, wherein the H 2 partial pressure is 2-6 atmospheres, the average linear flow rate through the catalyst is 20-200 cm./sec. and the catalyst has an acidity less than 1À0 x 10<SP>-6</SP> mol. NH 3 /g. catalyst. The alkali metal may be K and/or Li in the form of their oxides. The carrier may be alumina or a mixture of Al 2 O 3 and ZnO. Examples describe the dehydrogenation of ndecane and of C 10 -C 14 n-paraffin mixtures.
