1275765 Packaging containers UNILEVER Ltd 6 Aug 1969 [10 Aug 1968] 39390/69 Heading B8C In an apparatus for forming a package of a plurality of rimmed containers 11, equally spaced containers are conveyed at a constant speed by a conveyer 21, a blank 1 having openings 5 and weakened lines 6, 8, 9, 10 (Fig. I, not shown) is pushed by blank-transporting members 33 on a pair of chains 32 moving at a higher speed than the conveyer 21, to be folded along lines 9 by a pair of folding rails 34 and positioned on the containers by a cam release 38, the blank is held against the container tops by a pressure roller 39 supported on an arm 40 movable along arrow A, and the panels 3 of the blank are pressed downwardly by pairs of pressure members 25, Figs. 5, 6, mounted on chains 23 inclined as shown to the conveyer 21 and moving synchronously therewith, to engage the panels 4 of the blank under the container rims 13. The containers are supported by support members 22, Fig. 5, each of which supports two adjacent containers along as well as transversely of the conveying direction. The release cam 38, on wheel 37 of the chains 32 positions the blank accurately on the containers by pushing it until its leading edge touches the trailing edge of a preceding blank. Guide rails 26, Fig. 6, position the blank centrally over the containers and support rails 27 support the pressure members 25 against outward deflection. Engaging the panels 4 under the container rims may also be effected by arranging each pressure member 25 of a pair more spaced apart from the other (Fig. 9, not shown) and causing a pair of spring biased horizontal pins (29) on the pressure members to move inwardly under the rim. The apparatus is adjustable to package containers of different sizes.
