Abstract

1275590 Control lever mechanism FICHTEL & SACHS AG 2 Dec 1969 [4 Dec 1968] 58748/69 Heading B7E A control lever device for a bicycle or similar vehicle comprises at least one lever 1 pivotally mounted about a fulcrum 5 on a carrier plate 4, a locking device 11 to enable the lever to be fixed in a required position relative to the carrier plate, and supporting parts 6 formed integrally with the carrier plate 4 and forming a profile of a substantially inverted T-shape therewith, the supporting parts 6 co-operating with counterclamping devices 8 and connecting devices 9a, 9b for clamping the control lever device to a frame part of the vehicle. The embodiment illustrated includes two levers, 1, 2, for which the locking devices are a stop ball 11 and thrust bolt 12 respectively. The locking devices are housed in the lever shafts and are resiliently pressed against the carrier plate 4 by spring plates 10, the ball 11 engaging in stop holes 13 allowing lever 1 to set a gear, while the bolt 12 engages the plate 4 by friction and allows a brake to be set steplessly. The operating mechanisms e.g. a cable, for the gear and brake are attached to hook-shaped parts provided at the lower ends of the levers, see Fig. 2. A housing 17 is detachably secured by tubular attachments 18 which engage a peripheral groove 19 provided on screw bolts 9a, the latter forming part of the connecting devices. Alternatively the housing is held in position by interacting claws provided on the housing and on the counter clamping devices 8. The position of the gear may be indicated by a tongue 10b bent out of the spring plate and co-operating with a scale provided on the housing.
