Abstract

1275478 Regulating I C engine gas supply VSESOJUZNY NAUCHNO-ISSLEDOVATELSKY INSTITUT PRIRODNYKH GAZOV 17 Sept 1969 45792/69 Heading F1B Gas is supplied to the main and additional combustion chambers 3 and 5 of a multi-stage supercharged gas engine through respective manifolds 2 and 4. The manifold 2 is connected to the combustion chambers 3 through respective inlet valves 9 and throttle valves 13, the throttle valves being controlled by an engine speed governor 15. The volume of gas contained in the connection 33 between each inlet valve 9 and its associated throttle valve 13 is such that the amount when the pressure in the connection is equal to the pressure in the manifold 2 does not exceed the amount of gas supplied to the chamber 3 during one cycle of engine operation at the minimum engine idle r.p.m. The manifold 2 is connected to the gas supply 23 via a main control valve 16 and a by-pass valve 17 in parallel. The manifold 4 is connected to the chambers 5 through non-return valves 20 and the supply 23 by a valve 21 controlled by a force dependent upon the pressures of the supercharging air in the stages of its compression. The by-pass vlave 17 has a diaphragm 19 subject to the pressure of the engine air supply via an inlet 29 and the diaphragm 18 of the main control valve may be subjected to the pressure of air from a starting control system through a pipe 31. After starting the air supply through the pipe 31 is discontinued and the pressure vented to the atmosphere through an opening 32 to provide gradual valve opening. The governor control rack 14 when in the starting position closes a switch 25 in the circuit of an electromagnetic valve 28 in the air supply to the pneumatic actuator of the gas supply valve 24 to open the valve, the valve 16 remaining closed. The valve 16 may be replaced by a flow control valve (16a), Fig.2 (not shown), and a shut-off valve (24) with electromagnetically operated valves (27, 28) in the supply to its pneumatic actuator.
