Abstract
1275355 Recovering selenium XEROX CORP 21 Aug 1970 [27 Aug 1969] 40434/70 Heading C1A [Also in Division C7] Pure selenium is recovered from seleniumcontaining coatings on metal substrates by immersing the substrate in an aqueous solution containing 1-20% wt. cyanide to form a watersoluble selenocyanate and treating the resulting solution with an acid which does not form a soluble salt with selenium to precipitate the selenium. Suitable cyanides include LiCN, NaCN, KCN and Ca(CN) 2 and specified substrates include Al, Ni and brass. The coating may be in the form of a selenium-arsenic alloy and the selenium is separated from the arsenic which precipitates when immersed in the cyanide solution (see Division C7).
