Abstract

1275051 Moulding end caps on to cylinders E S & A ROBINSON Ltd 23 May 1969 [27 Feb 1968] 9500/68 Heading B5A [Also in Division B8] A container is made by closing one or both ends of a tubular body made of material including at least one fibrous layer by moulding an end member of plastics material on to the body. The tubular body preferably has a loose of fixed lining of flexible material which is compatible with the plastics material of the end member and which is held by or holds the end member. The end of the tubular body may also be contoured so that it is gripped by the plastic. It may be made of fibreboard, the lining is preferably a thermoplastic film and the end member may be formed from polyethylene, polypropylene or any suitable thermoplastic or thermosetting resin. As shown, a core 4 is fixed in the fibreboard tube 2, an outer mould 11 is clamped around the tube and plastics material is injected at 14 to form the cap 6. The tube is lined with a layer of thermoplastics material 3 which becomes bonded to the cap and a groove 15 in the exterior of the tube enables the thermoplastics material to grip it more securely. The cap may be formed with inserts of plastics or other material and may be provided with a filling orifice, dispensing orifice or a thin diaphragm which can be easily broken.
