1,274,523. Incorporating colour couplers into colour-photographic light-sensitive materials. FUJI PHOTO FILM CO. Ltd. Aug. 21, 1969 [Aug. 22, 1968], No.41749/69. Heading G2C. A colour-photographic light-sensitive silver halide emulsion containing a lipophilic colour coupler is produced by dispensing in an aqueous gelatine solution (1) droplets of a liquid obtained by melting in the case of a coupler having a melting point below 90‹ C., or dissolving in an organic solvent (which is insoluble in water and boils at normal pressure at above 190‹ C.) the lipophilic colour coupler which has at least one hydropholic radical containing 9 to 28 carbons and a radical which is able to couple with the oxidation product of a di-(N 1 N-disubstituted)-p-phenylenediamine compound to a given dye having an absorption in the visible wavelength range, in the presence of (2) a non-ionic surface-active agent obtained by esterification of one to two hydroxyl groups in an anhydrohexitol molecule with a fatty acid containing 10 to 20 carbon atoms and of (3) an anionic surface-active agent having both a hydrophobic radical containing 8 to 30 carbon atoms and a water-solubilizing group MO 3 S- or MO 3 SO- wherein M represents a hydrogen atom, an alkali-metal atom or an ammonium radical and adding the resultant liquid dispersion to a silver halide emulsion. The coupler may have a phenol, naphthol, acylacetanilide or 5-pyrazolone coupling radical. Many couplers are listed. The anionic surface-active agent is preferably an alkylaryl sulphonate, an alkyl sulphonate, a N-acyltamine, a N-acyl-N- alkyltamine or a dialkyl-α-sulphosuccinate, and may contain a coupling radical and examples thereof are listed. Preferred non-ionic surface active agents are sorbitan sesqui-oleate, sorbitan mono-oleate, sorbitan monopalmitate, sorbitan monostearate, sorbitan monolaurate and mannitan mono-oleate. The surface active agents may be added to either or both of the liquid (1) containing the coupler and the aqueous gelatine solution.
