Abstract
1,274,324. Adjustable beds. MASTERPEACE PRODUCTS Ltd. April 19, 1971 [Nov. 13, 1969], No. 55538/69. Heading A4J. A bed frame 10, table-top, or the like is supported on a base structure 1.. 4 by pairs of arms 8, 9 pivotally connected to the frame 10 and the base structure and movable either in unison, to lift the frame 10 vertically as a parallelogram linkage, or independently, to tilt the frame 10. In the embodiment shown in the raised position, the arms 8, 9 are fixed to respective shafts 5, 6 journelled in the tops 7 of the corner posts 2; the arms are rigid with stop members 23 which engage the posts 2 or other members of the structure in the lowered position. A hydraulic jack 24, actuated by pedal 27, turns the shaft 6 by an arm 26 so that the arms 9 lift the right-hand end of the frame 10 (which may be the head or the foot), the arms carrying rollers 15 running in guide channels 17 on the frame. The rollers are mounted on a rod 11 carried by the arms 9, and a tube 12 is rotatable on the rod by a lever 20 to lower a catch 18 into engagement with the adjacent channel 17; when the frame 10 is in its lowered position the catch then engages over the left-hand end of the channel 17, and actuation of the arms 9 then causes the frame 10 to move to the right with them so that it rises bodily, maintaining a horizontal attitude, on the arms 8, 9 acting as a parallel linkage.
