Abstract

1,273,861. Tilting cabs. VAUXHALL MOTORS Ltd. 19 April, 1971 [16 April, 1970], No. 18131/70. Heading B7B. In an automotive vehicle the drivers cab 3 is tiltable by an hydraulic mechanism and has hydraulically actuated lock devices 6 which are moved against a spring loading 12 to unlock the the cab before it is raised. In a preferred embodiment a manually operated pump 20 is moved to a "cab raise" position so that fluid is first supplied to ram 11 to unlatch a bolt lever 7 from a striker pin 16 carried by a lever 14 mounted on the vehicle chassis 5. Subsequent to this fluid pressure acts on the ram 1 to raise the cab 3. The cab is lowered by removing a safety stay (not shown) and by operating the pump 20 pressure is released to allow spring 12 to reassert latch bolt 7 to its latching position. When the cab descends bolt 7 will rotate on striking pin 16 which then snaps into notch 13. A resilient device 18 pivotally connected to the lever 14 provides a suspension for the rear end of the cab 3. In a modification the latch bolt 7 and ram 11 may be mounted on the chassis 5 and the lever 14 with pin 16 and suspension 18 mounted on the cab 3.
