A Sallen and Key filter, Fig. 2, comprising an amplifier 8 of gain k, resistors R1, R2 and capacitors C1, C2 is characterized by the inclusion of a third resistor R3 and by having values of the parameters chosen to satisfy the equation (1-k)+(m/M)=[(#)/1-#].[(1+m)/n] where m=<SP>R2</SP>/ R1 , n=<SP>C1</SP>/ C2 , M=<SP>R3</SP>/ R1 , #=a constant between 0 and 1. In a modification, Fig. 3 (not shown), the capacitor C2 is connected to earth via the low impedance output of a further amplifier (17) having its input connected to the filter input terminal via a series CR circuit (CC 3 , RR 4 ) and having its input shunted by a further resistor (RR 5 ). The values of these components satisfy the equation
