Abstract

1,273,492. Shoots for sorting articles. COMPAGNIE GENERALE D'AUTOMATISME. 19 Feb., 1970 [19 Feb., 1969], No. 8106/70. Heading B8S. Articles, such as parcels, delivered to hopper 1 are sorted by being fed separately to anyone of 32 receiving stations by the use of four rotors 2, 3, 4 and 5. The rotors are provided with 2, 4, 8 and 16 channels respectively and each rotor is rotated by a motor 41 between two end positions so that a channel discharges to either of two channels beneath it. Additionally, hopper 1 is provided with flap 9 pivotable into either of two positions by the operation of two oppositely acting solenoids. In this way by suitable displacement of flap or rotor the parcel from hopper 1 is discharged to a predetermined station. Each motor 41 drives its rotor through a pinion 43 on a shaft 42 engaging a toothed wheel fixed to the rotor or formed by shaping part of the internal surface of the rotor. In alternative drive arrangements, the shaft 42 is driven by a pinion fixed thereon engaging a rack which is reciprocated by a piston-and-cylinder device or by a pair of solenoids, one at each end of the rack.
