Abstract

1,273,384. Migration imaging. XEROX CORP. April 30, 1969 [May 1, 1968], No. 51793/71. Divided out of 1,273,382. Heading G2H. An image comprising a softenable layer of material which has been differentially hardened is formed by (1) providing an imaged member comprising an image pattern of material continguous to the surface of but contacting a softenable layer, and (2) exposing said member through said image pattern to radiation which is capable of hardening said softenable material. The imaged member is produced from an imaging member having a layer of migration material spaced apart from at least one surface of, but contacting a softenable layer, softening the softenable layer and applying a migration force (especially electrical or magnetic) so that the migration material imagewise migrates in depth in the softenable layer. In the Examples, a migration image is formed electro-photographically using a vapour deposited vitreous selenium layer on a layer of partially hydrogenated resin ester on an aluminised polyester support, and the imaged ester layer imagewise hardened by exposing to UV radiation.
