1,273,114. Collapsible grille guard. C. M. QUINONES, C. SHACKELTON and V. M. WILLIAMS. 16 March, 1970, No. 12592/70. Heading E1J. A burglary-proof expandable and contractable grille guard comprises a frame constituted by top and bottom bars 26, 25 each composed of a pair of angle irons 27, 28 secured to form a channel and so disposed to form a notch 29, Fig. 2 so that the collapsed grille pivoted by hinges 34 on one of the vertical frame posts 54a, (i.e. the post can pivot out of the window aperture to clear same), the vertical frame latch post 24 comprising a channel 50 with a track 33, Fig. 5 of spaced parallel bars 34 and welded in the channel 50 each having a longitudinally extending groove 37 to guide a slidable vertical latch bar 36 with two spaced apertures 38 therein each having projecting thereinto and parallel thereto a latch bolt 39 Fig. 3 secured to the latch bar, the bolt being arranged to pass through a hole 63 in a hasp 62 secured to the grille leading post 54b, Fig. 1 which hasps 62 pass through holes 64 in a cover plate 45 on the latch post when the grille is extended to its closed position, and the latch bar is unlocked by the provision of a semicircular handle 48 secured to the latch bar and movable in an elongated hole in the vertical latch post 24 on the inside of the window, to enable the latch bar to be lifted to disengage the bolts from the hasps. The handle may be shielded by a cover device 1A or the handle may be replaced by a recess engageable by a person's finger (Figs. 7-10 not shown). A metal plate 69 is secured on the inner side to post 54b to prevent access to the latch handle 48 through the grille spaces. Blocks [73] prevent damage to fingers.
