Abstract

A box of the "flip-top" type that can be made semi-automatically is, in one form, made from a single blank, Fig. 7, slit at 34 to form the hinge line, there being a strip of calico or paper glued to the inside to cover the slit, and the side and end flaps 28 being secured to assume a tray like form. The lower half of the blank is similarly folded. An outer decorative wrapper is applied to the box. The tray like portions are folded about the base 33 so that one portion fits within the other, slits 36 having been previously made in the flaps 28. Adhesive holds the box in the final form and the outer covering is slit along a line corresponding to a slit 35 in the lower part of the blank so that the lid can hinge about the slit 34. In a second embodiment, the box is formed from two identical blanks each forming a tray like portion. The slits 34, 35 may be a different distance from the adjacent end of the blank and the slits 36 can be inclined to the edges of the blank to give the usual "flip-top" shape. In a further embodiment, Fig. 6, two lids are formed.
