Abstract

1,272,681. Valves. A. AZIZ. 19 May, 1970 [17 April, 1969], No. 19687/69. Heading F2V. Control of fluid flow between valve passages 19, 20, 23, 24 is effected in response to the temperature of the fluid flow within bore 11 and by means of a wax-filled capsule 25 upon which a cylindrical valving member 30 is carried, the valving member being urged against a flared portion 27 of the capsule by means of a spring 35, having a plurality of ports 32 formed therein and carrying an annular sealing ring 33. In operation, a rise in temperature of the fluid causes the capsule to be displaced to the right, as seen in the Figure, such that the apertures become progressively obstructed and finally closed when the sealing ring 33 engages a shoulder 13 of the bore 11. In a modification (Fig. 2, not shown), the free end of the capsule acts as a valving member which co-operates either with the narrow bore 12 or with a sealing ring located against the shoulder 13. In further modifications, not shown, one of the valve passages may be blanked off. The valve is said to be usable with a vehicle engine lubricating system incorporating a lubricant heating or cooling apparatus.
