Abstract

1,272,567. Directional couplers. PLESSEY CO. Ltd. 22 Sept., 1969 [1 Oct., 1968], No. 46620/68. Heading H1W. Parts of one of the coupled lines of an adjustable strip-line directional coupler are mounted on relatively movable substrates separated by a dielectric film. The line 1, Fig. 3, and parts 9, 10 of coupled line 2 are mounted on the upper face of a dielectric substrate 8, Fig. 5, whilst parts 3, 4, 5 of the coupled line 2 are mounted on the lower face of a dielectric substrate 11. The faces of the substrates are juxtaposed with the interposition of a sheet 11a of P.T.F.E. Parts 4, 5 respectively overlie parts 9, 10 along an interval Q, whereby these parts are capacitively coupled. The substrates 8, 11 are mounted on conductive plates 12, 14, the latter being movable along parallel guides 15, whereby the distance between line parts 1 and 3 and hence the degree of coupling may be varied. The guides 15 and the fixed plate 12 are provided with mounting holes 16, 17 for coaxial terminals.
