Shuttles, changing bobbins in, automatically.- In a spool-changing loom of the kind in which a pusher or transferrer moves with the lay, the pusher, during its travel, remains in co-operative relationship with, and-slides along, an arm adapted to depress it to effect the change of spool, and mechanism of the kind independent of the driving- mechanism of the lay is provided for operating the arm when the weft fails, and is so arranged that the pusher may be depressed at any time from before the lay is at front centre to the moment when the throw of the shuttle begins. When the weft fails, the weft-fork 5 is engaged by the weft hammer 7, and the fork-carrier 2 acts through a lever 8 to turn a cross-shaft 13. A lever 14<a> on this shaft moves a sliding rod 14 carrying a rack gearing with a pinion 15 provided with a crankpin connected by an arm 16 to a lever 17. A fork on the upper arm of this lever moves a clutch part 19 along a pin 21 and clutches it to an arm 25 extending forwards over an adjustable cross-head 26 on the pusher 27, which is slidably mounted on and moves with the lay 28. At the same time, an adjustable roller 23 on an arm 22 carried by the part 19 is moved into position on a disk 24 to be acted upon by a cam 31 on the disk, so that the pusher is depressed by the arm 25 against the action of springs and transfers a fresh spool from a spool-carrier into the shuttle. The cam-disk 24 can be adjusted to effect the change of spool at the desired movement within the limits mentioned above. Instead of using the clutch device, the cam-disk 24 may be moved to bring it into operative relationship with the cam 25 or with a forked treadle arm engaging the lower end of a rod connected to the pusher, slidably carried by the lay, and normally held raised by springs. A pawl 6 is mounted on the weft-fork carrier 2 and engages a slidable rack 3, which it moves forwards against the action of a spring when the carrier is moved on failure of weft. A detent 9 on a fixed pivot engages the rack and holds it in its displaced position until the weft hammer again moves forwards. If weft is presented to the fork, a tappet 10 on the weft hammer strikes tails 6<a>, 9<a> of the pawls 6, 9, and releases the rack, which returns to its normal position.
