The sealed case of a timepiece is filled with an inert gas at a pressure between atmospheric and 1À2 kg cm<SP>-2</SP> and having a maximum oxygen content of 5% by volume. The inert gas may be one or a mixture of the following: nitrogen, carbon dioxide, helium, neon, argon, krypton, xenon, or other unspecified gases which are inert to the usual timepiece materials.
