1,271,983. Dithiophosphoric acid derivatives. ETHYL CORP. 24 Feb., 1969 [23 Feb., 1968; 29 Oct., 1968 (2)], No. 9832/69. Heading C2P. [Also in Divisions C3 and C5] Novel compounds of the formula wherein R 1 is an alkyl, aryl, aralkyl or cycloalkyl hydrocarbon group having up to 20 C atoms, R 2 is H or a hydrocarbon group as defined above, R 3 and R 4 are the same or different hydrocarbon groups including aryl, aralkyl or cycloalkyl groups having up to 20 C atoms and alkyl groups having up to 50 C atoms, and n is 1 or 2, may be made by reacting an appropriate alcohol or phenol with phosphorus pentasulphide and further reacting the O,O- dihydroxy carbyl ester obtained with an appropriate hydroxybenzyl chloride, bromide or iodide, usually in a solvent. The compounds may be used as stabilizers for mineral and synthetic ester lubricating oils, and natural and synthetic rubbers, particularly in the presence of synergists.
