Abstract

1,271,958. Cables. WESTERN ELECTRIC CO. Inc. 22 July, 1969 [25 July, 1968], No. 36719/69. Heading H1A, [Also in Division C3] - Textile covered wires are treated with a flame retardant lacquer comprising in the following proportions by weight: 100 parts of a derivative of cellulose, e.g. cellulose acetate or formate or ethyl cellulose, as the base, from 25 to 35 parts of a derivative of cresylic acid and phosphorus oxychloride as the plasticizer, from 40 to 45 parts of a brominated monomeric triallyl phosphate as the flame retardant and from 120 to 150 parts of dimethyl ketone, ethyl methyl ketone, ethanol or methanol as the solvent. A preferred lacquer comprises dimethyl ketone, cellulose acetate, tricresyl phosphate and tris- (2,3-dibromopropyl)phosphate. Wire, particularly for use in U-type distributing frames in telephone exchanges, comprises a central copper conductor surrounded by an insulating layer of fire retardant plasticized polyvinyl chloride around which is wrapped a colour coded textile, e.g. cotton serving with is impregnated with and surrounded by the above flame retardant lacquer coating.
