Abstract

1,271,317. Fluidic device manufacture. N. V. BEKAERT S.A. 23 April, 1969 [23 April, 1968; 3 Feb., 1969], No. 20779/69. Heading B5N. [Also in Divisions B3 and G4-G6] An element for use in fluidic circuitry is formed by die stamping one or more fluid flow channels in the surface of a component of the element. The channels are not stamped right through the component. The die is made of wire and may be pressed into one component or pressed between two superposed components, and a fluidic element formed from a component and a flat plate or by two superposed components joined by glue, screws, clips, rods or mutually engaging ribs and holes. The channels may be formed as resistances using wire dies in which the length is at least ten times the width or a channel made with a chamber near its centre to form a T-filter. A number of elements may be arranged in a stack and the channels connected by drilling holes in the sides and edges of the elements. The die is made of hardened carbon steel drawn by the wet process and the component made of aluminium, brass, copper or plastics material. In operation, the die is either mounted on a steel backing plate for pressing one component or fixed between two components by mounting holes, in both cases an hydraulic press being used. The channels may be formed of circular, polygonal, semi-elliptical or semicircular crosssection depending on the die shape. In another embodiment the die is a steel plate. Alternatively whole fluidic circuits can be stamped by the method described.
