Abstract
1,271,096. Coating. MINNESOTA MINING & MFG. CO. 14 April, 1969, No. 19057/ 69. Heading B2E. [Also in Divisions B5 and C7] A metal substrate is provided with a uniform coating by abrading the surface of the substrate with a low density abrasive comprising a tough, flexible resilient three dimensional structure containing a multiplicity of abrasive granules randomly distributed throughout and firmly adherently bonded thereto such that the major portion of its volume is made up of distributed voids and thereafter promptly applying a coating to the abraded surface. In a preferred embodiment the abrasive disclosed in Specification 884,204 is employed. In the examples (I and II) steel is provided with a phosphate coating and a second coating of linseed oil or (XII) is treated with a low density foam abrasive bronze flash plated, abraded again, dipped in an epoxy resin and then baked to cure the resin.
