Abstract

1,270,649. Hinged gooseneck for trailer. TALBERT MFG. Inc. 2 June, 1970, No. 26457/70. Heading B7B. A hinged assembly 11 for connecting a low bed trailer to a tractor, has a draft member 32 comprising a front portion 39 engageable with the fifth wheel 20 of a tractor 13 and a rear portion 38 extending downwardly and rearwardly of the front portion 39 to a pivot 54 connecting it to a base member 33 which has apertured plates 58 at its lower front edge for attachment to the front of the trailer 12. Retaining pins 61 extend through plate 62 of the base member 33 and into recesses 63 in the deck 24. Hydraulic actuators 65-68 (66-68, not shown) are connected between the front portion of draft member 32 and the top front edge of base member 33 to enable these members to be rotated relative to one another so raising or lowering the front of the trailer. A safety lock 78, which may be pneumatically operated, is provided to prevent relative rotation of the base and draft members when in the locked position. A pneumatically operated arm 42 can pivot to a position to support draft member 32 when the trailer is disconnected. Folding ramps 31 are provided at the front end of the trailer and are spaced so that the hinged assembly is received therebetween when attached to the trailer.
