Abstract

1,270,487. Recoilless weapons; cartridges. K. DIEHL. 5 Oct., 1970 [30 Oct., 1969], No. 47185/70. Headings F3A and F3C. A recoilless automatic weapon and a cartridge therefor is provided, the weapon comprising a launching tube 1, an expansion chamber 3, a nozzle 4 and a loading chamber 2, which is provided along its length with apertures 5, (6) through one of which the cartridge may be loaded, and through another one of which the cartridge may be unloaded, the loading and unloading taking place by a movement of the cartridge transversely of the weapon. The cartridge has a projectile 10 and a launching charge 11 which are accommodated in a tubular cartridge case 9 extending beyond the nose of the projectile so as to provide an extension of the launching tube 1. The cartridge may be provided with a wad 13 which is urged outwardly of the weapon through the nozzle 4 or the expansion chamber may be provided with a fixed grating 15. The cartridge case, at each end is provided with a sealing-ring 14 for sealing the case in the loading chamber. The cartridges are fed into the weapon through the aperture (6) by a feed device (Fig. 2, not shown) and the spent cartridges ejected through the aperture 5.
