Abstract
127,043. Normanville, S. A. de. March 26, 1917. Telescopes. - Spray and like guards for telescopes comprise a rotary transparent disk so mounted and driven as to leave the field of view entirely unobstructed. In the construction shown in Figs. 1 and 2, the transparent disk 8 is mounted in a cap 4 rotating on ball bearings carried on a socket 2 screwed into the outer end of a tube 1 forming a cover for the objective end of the telescope. The cap 4 is rotated by compressed air from one or more nozzles 10 acting upon a vane-wheel 6<1> on the cap. In another construction, Fig. 4, the disk 8 is carried by a ring 14 formed with vanes or buckets 20 upon which air issuing from holes 18 in an air-chest 17 impinges. The ring 13 is V- shaped in section and ball bearings are dispensed with, the ring 13 being supported by the action of the air-jets. Other vanes 19 are formed on the rings 12 used for holding the disk 8 in the ring 13. In Fig. 8 is shown an electric motor for driving the disk. A ring armature< >22 of a directeurr'ent motor is mounted en an extension of the ring 6<1>, to which the cover is attached. Field magnets 23 are carried by the tube 1, and the commutator 24 is mounted on the extension of the ring 6<1>, carbon brushes being carried by holders 26 mounted on the field magnets.
