Abstract

1,270,384. Coating apparatus. FOSECO TRADING A.G. 11 April, 1969 [29 April, 1968], No. 20190/68. Heading B2L. [Also in Divisions B3 and B5] A hot top lining 21 is applied to the top of a mould or head box from an extrusion head 14 driven by a motor 10 so that it moves around the inner surface of the mould, it being guided by means of an arm 18 and guide system 9. Material for the lining is fed to the extrusion head 14 from a storage hopper 3 via a screw conveyor 4 and flexible hose 13. A roller 16 may be attached to the head 14 and is urged against the wall of the mould by a spring 17 to maintain the head 14 at a constant distance from said wall. In another embodiment, Fig. 2, the position of the extrusion head 14 is determined by the height of a table 23 located on the top of the mould 19, the head being driven and guided by wheels 29 driven around an upstanding former 27 by a motor 28. In a modification the lining is applied to a rotable former, allowed to harden, stripped from the former and inserted into a mould or head box. The former may be coated with a release agent e.g. silicone floor polish, or lined with waxed paper or aluminium foil to facilitate the stripping operation.
