Abstract
1,270,308. Linking-machines. E. H. P. M. HAHN. 10 July, 1969 [30 July, 1968], No. 34855/69. Heading D1G. In a circular linking machine a centrifugal clutch is provided having a driving part 45 with segments 26b' and rollers 47 and a driven part 26a" which is provided with a lug 26c which corresponds to a preselected needle position and is engaged by an abutment lever 1 (Fig. 2) under the control of an electromagnet 5 which also switches off the driving motor by means of a switch 8. As shown in Fig. 2 when the electromagnet 5 is energised the armature 5b thereof moves upwardly causing the abutment lever 1 to be moved horizontally out of the way of lug 26c and also allowing the switch 8 to start the motor. When the electromagnet 5 is de-energised the abutment lever moves to abut the lug 26c and the motor is stopped. When the machine is thus stopped a handwheel 42 can be pushed in so that gears 54 and 55 engage to move the shaft 20 and rotate the points manually. As this is done a rod 58 is bent to close a switch 53 which causes a second electromagnet 6 to be energised. The armature 6b of this second lifts the abutment member 1 away from the lug 26e and allows rotation of the driven part of the clutch by the handwheel without energisation of the drive motor. Control buttons may be provided in parallel to the switch operating the electromagnet 5 which causes movement of the machine only while the button is depressed, thus allowing powered rotation of the points circle for short periods.
