Abstract

1,270,029. Treating textiles with thermoplastic polymers. COLGATE-PALMOLIVE CO. 18 June, 1969 [19 June, 1968], No. 30874/ 69. Heading D1P. [Also in Divisions C3 and C4] Textile materials are treated with an aqueous textile treating composition for non-durable sizing and rendering a textile oil- and waterrepellant comprising (A) a water-soluble or water-dispersible starch and (B) a thermoplastic fluoropolymer of a polymerisable compound of the formula wherein X represents hydrogen, C 1 to C 8 alkyl, chlorine or fluorine, X 1 represents hydrogen, chlorine or fluorine; X 2 represents hydrogen, C 1 to C 4 alkyl or halogen; n has a value of 3 to 30; m is 1, 2 or 3; at least 70% in number, and in any case at least 6, of the X's are fluorine; and the polymer has a molecular weight of less than 30,000. The monomer may be copolymerised with other ethylenic monomers. Many such monomers are listed. In Examples cotton fabric is treated. The aqueous composition may be in the form of an aerosol containing a halogenated hydrocarbon propellant and siloxane resins, polybutadine, polystyrene and polyethylene as antistick agents and quaternary ammonium water repellants.
