Abstract

[Also in Division F2] A valve apparatus by means of which material received at an inlet opening 35 can be delivered at one of two outlet openings 36, 37 in the valve housing 29, has a valve member 28 rotatably mounted in the housing 29, the members 28 being formed with tapering channels 43, 44 of rectangular cross-section and being rotatable between a position in which material received through pipe 22 at inlet 35 is delivered to pipe 25 at outlet 36 through channel 44, as shown in Fig. 3, or a position in which material received at inlet 35 is delivered through channel 43 to outlet 37, Fig. 4 (not shown), or a closed position, Fig. 5 (not shown), in which the inlet and both outlets are closed. The valve assembly may similarly be operated with a pair of alternative inlets 25, 26 connectible to an outlet 22, Figs. 9, 10 (not shown), the valve member 28 being rotated such that the channels 43, 44 taper in the direction of flow. Due to the taper of the channels 43, 44 the area of the channel 44 adjacent the inlet 35 is greater than the area of the inlet 35 while the area of its other end is less than the area of the outlet 36 as shown, which prevents the build-up of material in the vicinity of said inlet and outlet openings during flow of material through the valve apparatus. As shown in Fig. 12 the valve member consists of a plate member 83 which is secured between a pair of circular end walls 81 and which is rotatable between the two positions shown and a third upright position in which the inlet 35A is closed. In the solid line position of the member 83 the lower edge of the said member on the left-hand side of the Figure lies above the edge of the inlet opening 35A and its opposite edge lies below the edge of the outlet opening 36A to prevent material build-up.
