Abstract
1,269,687. Signalling over power circuits. ZELLWEGER Ltd. 31 Oct., 1969 [23 Dec., 1968]. No. 53443/69. Heading H4R. [Also in Division H2] An inverter 12 in a ripple control installation, is connected to a power supply 1 through fuses 19 ... 21, a contactor 28, a rectifier 4 and a "Keying" switch 8, and supplies control frequency energy through a coupling circuit 14 to a distribution network 2. An arrester 6, e.g. of the gas discharge type, is connected across the output terminals of the rectifier and a diode 10 is connected across the switch 8 with a polarity opposed to that of the rectifier. Should an overvoltage condition arise at the output terminals of the rectifier 4, the arrester 6 conducts and the increased current through the rectifier 4 causes one or more of the fuses 19 ... 21 to blow. This interrupts the supply to the coil 40 of a contactor 37 so that its contacts 36 open to de-energize the coil 32 of the contactor 28, or directly interrupts the supply to the coil 32. The contactor 28 opens its contacts 25 ... 27 to remove the supply from the rectifier and opens contacts 44 to cause the opening of a contactor 13 to disconnect the inverter from the network 2. Should the inverter be subjected to an overvoltage condition when the switch 8 is open, then current can flow through the diode 10 to cause the arrester 6 to conduct so to effect the switching off of the rectifier and inverter. In a modified arrangement the contactor 13 has contacts connected to short circuit the coupling transformers 83 ... 85 when this contactor releases.
