Abstract

1,269,506. Diaphragm pump. Q.V.F. Ltd. and A. T. W. WILLIAMS. June 17, 1969 [June 28, 1968], No. 31017/68. Heading F1A. A diaphragm pump comprises a unitary glass housing 1 having a pumping cavity 2 open at one side to receive a diaphragm 25 attached to a reciprocating shaft 27, and, on opposite sides of the the cavity 2 an inlet 4 and an outlet 5, a venting passage 29 connecting the upper part of the cavity 2 with the outlet 5 to remove entrapped gas. Non- return ball valves 6, 7 are connected to the inlet 4 and outlet 5 and to pipe-ends 9 with the interposition of P.T.F.E. seals 11, 12. The diaphragm 25 is clamped between an annular rim 23 of the housing 1 and a flanged element 24 and is braced by a mushroom-shaped element 28, the shaft 27 having an extension passing through the diaphragm 25 retaining a spacer 3 against the diaphragm.
