In a valve unit for controlling gas burners generally similar to that described in Specification 1,101,908, there is a sprung, lost motion, connection between the push-button (2) and the associated pilot burner closure member (4) so that the initial movement of this button over an idle distance (C v ) permits the main valve (7, 8) to close before the pilot burner is cut off.
