A non-rigid mounting/tiltable thrust bearing, e.g. for a bridge comprises a resiliently or plastically deformable pressure pad 2 seated in a container 1a, 1b, which is closed by a load bearing pressure plate 3. According to the invention, the pad 2 is sealed by a sealing member 4 (11, Fig. 4) which consists of a sealing ring 6 and a plurality of plates 7, 7a, 8 of the same total thickness as the ring and fitted inside it, one of the plates, 8, being of resiliently or plastically deformable material, and another, 7, being non-deformable and disposed between the resiliently or plastically deformable plate 8 and the pressure pad. The sealing ring 6 may be of rectangular X-section (Figs. 3, 6) or may have one recess (Figs. 2, 4 and 5) or two recesses as shown. The deformable disc may be of smaller (as shown) or larger diameter (Fig. 2, not shown) than the non-deformable disc(s). A lubricating layer may be inserted between the sealing mem- and the pressure plate, to facilitate sliding of one relative to the other. Low friction layers can be fitted between the pressure pad and the container wall 1c. Recesses 3a in the pressure plate allow it to tilt. Under heavy pressures the fully enclosed pressure pad acts like a viscous fluid.
