Abstract

1,268,383. Cardiotonic glycosides. SHIONOGI & CO. Ltd. 18 June, 1969 [18 June, 1968; 26 July, 1968], No. 30961/69. Heading C2U. The invention comprises the compound of formula and its esters and acetals, and the preparation thereof by reduction of gitoxin and its esters and acetals e.g. with aluminium hydride compounds. The products are interconvertible by acylation, acetalization, deacylation (by hydrolysis, reduction with LiAlH 4 or reaction with a Grignard reagent) and deacetalization. The inventive compounds are stated to possess cardiotonic, antiviral and cytotoxic activity, and may be made up with carriers into pharmaceutical and veterinary compositions for oral and parenteral administration.
