Abstract

[Also in Divisions B5 and D1] Filter material for a moving band air filter is prepared from a length of expanded glass fibre web impregnated with a resin binder and compressed to the necessary thickness. The side edge zones 2 are compressed to a smaller thickness than that of the main portion 1. The resin binder is cured prior to or during the compression by heating. Additional binder such as powdered polyethylene may be applied to the zones 2 before compression. Retaining elements 3 may be provided extending longitudinally along the side edge zones by compression of the parts 2 between plates having profiles corresponding to the shape of 3. Flexible stiffness material 6 such as cord may be secured in the grooves by means of a water based acrylic resin and a web of flexible material 7 bonded to 2. Alternatively liquid plastics material may be introduced at spaced points along the groove 3 and hardened. In another embodiment a length of cord is secured to the flat side edge zone by means of flexible material which is laid over the cord and adhered on either side to the side edge zone 2.
