Abstract

1,268,329. Ratchet clutches. SKF KUGELLAGERFABRIKEN G.m.b.H. 22 Dec., 1970 [22 Dec., 1969], No. 60862/70. Heading F2C. In a one-way clutch wherein caged balls or rollers 3 wedge between a cylindrical race 1 and a thin walled wedge shaped element 6 adjacent another cylindrical race 2, springs 7 bias the element 6 into engagement with the balls or rollers 3. The wedging balls or rollers 3 alternate with bearing balls or rollers 4 carried by a common cage 5. As shown individual springs 7 carried by the cage 5 act on the elements 6 but in Figs. 3 and 4 (not shown) all the elements 6 are acted upon by a single annular spring element. As shown the elements 6 act between the balls or rollers 3 and the outer race 2 but the elements 6 may act between the balls or rollers 3 and the inner race 1.
