Abstract
1,267,963. Laboratory rotary stills. KNIGHT INSTRUMENTS Ltd. 23 April, 1970 [25 April, 1969], No. 21250/69. Heading B1B. A still, suitable for carrying out distillation in a laboratory, comprises two interconnected flasks, the liquid being evaporated in flask 14, which is immersed in a heating bath 2 in base structure 1, and the vapour being condensed in flask 15 immersed in cooling bath 3; the condenser flask 15 has a neck 15b provided with a wheel 17 having a rubber tyre 17a which is engaged by two motorised friction wheels 5 whereby the flask assembly is rotated. The junction tube 16 between the two flasks is supported by two posts 4 of polytetrafluoroethylene. The assembly is maintained under reduced pressure by a vacuum pump connected to pipe 19 which is joined to pipe 12 and tube 18. The vacuum may be controlled by knob 11a The vacuum pump may be embodied in the base structure 1, or the distilation unit and the vacuum pump may be mounted on a trolley. The cooling bath may contain acetone to which ice or solid CO 2 is added.
