Abstract

1,267,834. Scribers. KONGSBERG VAPENFABRIKK AS. 10 June, 1969 [10 June, 1968], No. 29394/69. Heading B4X. Apparatus for marking one or more curves on a member which will form a frame section, e.g. of a ship, comprises a carriage, a marking out device and a curve-follower device for controlling movement of the marking-out device the carriage being constructed to run along an edge of the member and the apparatus being arranged such that non-linearities of the edge are compensated. A plate 5 is marked with one or more curves 6 such that when the plate is bent to form a frame section, the desired curvature of the frame section is obtained when the curve 6 attains the form of a straight line (Figs. 2 and 3). The marking apparatus comprises a carriage 8 which has wheels 18 for rolling or geared engagement with an edge or a rack secured relative to the edge of the plate 5, a marking device 10, and a curve-follower device 26 for controlling movement of the marking device in accordance with a same-scale or reduced-scale curve which may have the form of a groove 3 cut in a plate 4. The plate 4, mounted on a carrier 22 which has roller engagement, as at 21, and geared engagement, as at 20, with the carrier 8, is movable with the carrier 8 but the ratio of the speed of its movement to the speed of movement of the carrier 8 relative to the plate 5 will depend on the gear ratio of the gearing provided. The scale of the curve 3 along the length of the curve corresponds to this gear ratio. Other arrangements of suitable curves or templates for the curve-follower to follow, are described.
