Abstract

[Also in Divisions A3 and E2] A device for restraining a patient in a chair comprises a piece of flexible material 12 to cover the front of the patient from the waist to below the knees, a waist strap 14 stitched to the top of the piece of material 12 to extend and be releasably secured behind the back of the chair, and a further strap 18 stitched to the piece 12 in downwardly spaced relation to the strap 14 to extend and be releasably secured by means of buckles 40 to the legs 60 of the chair so as to hold the legs of the patient below the knees in a fixed position in the chair. In an alternative embodiment the piece of material 12 is extended downwards and folded back on itself to form an envelope for the patient's feet and lower legs. With either embodiment a shoulder harness may be used comprising a strap 112 joined to two shoulder straps 110 which terminate behind the patient's back in a horizontal strap having its length adjustable by means of a buckle, the ends of the horizontal strap being in the form of loops for securing to the chair. The shoulder harness may be attached to the waist strap 14 by engaging a snap-fastener 38 with one of the snap fasteners 114 on the strap 112.
