Abstract

1,267,534. Steroid 16-glucosides. E. R. SQUIBB & SONS Inc. 17 March, 1969, No. 13891/69 Headings C2C and C2U. The invention comprises the 16α-(α-D-glucosides) of steroid and A-norsteroid 16α,17α- and 16α,17#-diols and their preparation from the parent diols by reaction with an oligo- or poly-saccharide (having at least one D-glucose unit) in the presence of a source of the enzyme amylase or transglucosylase. The enzyme source may be the purified enzyme itself, a fungal amylase preparation (e.g. from cultivation of Aspergillus niger or A. oryzae) or a commercial, microbial, animal or plant source. The inventive compounds are said to possess estrogenic activity and may be administered parenterally.
