Abstract

1,132,614. Cardenolide derivatives. SANDOZ Ltd. 31 Dec., 1965 [1 Feb., 1965], No. 55385/65. Heading C2U. The invention comprises 12-dehydro-digoxin and its α-monoacetyl and tetracetyl derivatives, and their preparation by oxidation of α-acetyldigoxin with chromic acid in glacial acetic acid, followed if desired by, in any order, acetylation and/or hydrolysis. The compounds of the invention have cardiotonic activity and may be used in pharmaceutical compositions in combination with a carrier, for example in forms suitable for oral or parenteral administration.
