Abstract

An immersion filter plant for filtering sewage effluent is provided with at least one trickling filter comprising a plurality of circular plates immersed in the effluent to about half their diameter and mounted coaxially on a driven shaft which is supported by at least two bearings, the plates being separated from one another by spacers formed integrally with the plates, wherein each plate is assembled from a plurality of sectors which are fastened by bolts passing through the spacers to struts radially located on the shaft. The plates and spacers may be made of a foamed plastics material. As shown in Fig. 1, each plate is assembled from eight sector members 11. These members are held together by bolts which pass through the spacers 6 (Fig. 2, not shown) and through angle irons 14 (Fig. 3, not shown). These angle irons reinforce the plate assemblies and fasten them to struts 16 (Fig. 3, not shown) welded radially to the shaft.
