Abstract

1,267,354. Electroless plating. SPERRY RAND Ltd. June 12, 1969 [June 12, 1968], No.27832/68. Heading C7F. In the electroless plating of a dielectric substrate of e.g. ceramics, anodized aluminium or epoxy resin with e.g. Ni, pospho-nickel, Cu, Co or Co alloys, the substrate is immersed in a catalytic bath of e.g. palladium chloride in acetone which bath is vibrated ultrasonically at an intensity of 5 to 50 watts per sq. inch such that cantation occurs. The bath may contain a mild etching additive. The substrate may be first vapour blasted and then immersed in a stannous chloride solution, and it may have a finely divided filler of e.g. calcium carbonate or magnesium carbonate or oxide at its surface. The filler may be first partly leached with hydrofluoric, formic or acetic acids, and it may react with the catalytic material under e.g. ultraviolet light.
