Abstract

1,267,184. Production of salt from sea water; solar evaporators. JOHN YIN SING CHAN. 2 Feb., 1970, No. 4918/70. Heading B1B. [Also in Division F4] Salt is obtained from seawater or similar brine by pumping it to canal C where the brine surges and splashes down sloping, blackplastics sheets 1 which are exposed to the ambient atmosphere and located so that the sun's rays fall thereon, whereby water is evaporated from the brine, and crystals of salt in residual brine flow from the bottom of the sheets into ducts D and D'. The salt is separated from the residual brine, and the latter may be recycled to canal C. Each sheet is approximately 1500 feet long from the top to the bottom, and is approximately 4000 feet wide. The surface of the sheet is in the form of square shallow cups of the order of 1 mm. across.
